ADX indicator

The Average Directional Index ADX indicator measures the strength of a trend and can be useful to determine if a trend is strong or weak. High readings indicate a strong trend and low readings indicate a weak trend. This can be either a strong uptrend or a strong downtrend. It does not tell you if the trend is up or down, it just tell you how strong the current trend is.

The ADX is an oscillator that fluctuates between 0 and 100. Even though the scale is from 0 to 100, readings above 60 are relatively rare. Low readings, below 20, indicate a weak trend and high readings, above 40, indicate a strong trend. The indicator does not grade the trend as bullish or bearish, but merely assesses the strength of the current trend. A reading above 40 can indicate a strong downtrend as well as a strong uptrend.

ADX can also be used to identify potential changes in a market from trending to non-trending. When ADX begins to strengthen from below 20 and moves above 20, it is a sign that the trading range is ending and a trend is developing.

Always us this indicators with Plus Directional and Minus Directional Index to identify the upside or down side.

Interpretations

If ADX is between 0 – 20 - 25 then the stock is in a trading range. It is likely just chopping around sideways.

Once ADX gets above 20 - 25 then you will begin to see the beginning of a trend. Big moves (up or down) tend to happen when ADX is right around this number.

When the ADX indicator gets above 20 - 30 then you are staring at a stock that is in a strong trend.

You won’t see very many stocks with the ADX above 50. Once it gets that high, you start to see trends coming to an end and trading ranges developing again.

ADX จะมีหน้าที่บอกความแรงของทิศทางของราคา ขึ้นแรงใหม ลงแรงใหม แต่มันจะไม่บอกว่าตอนนี้อยู่ทิศใหน จึงต้องใช้คู่กับอีก 2 ตัวคือ plus direction index และ minus directional index โดยปกติ ถ้า plus อยู่สูงกว่า minus จะชี้ว่า ADX ชี้กำลังของขาขึ้น วิธีการใช้คร่าวๆคือส่วนใหญ่ใช้ ADX 14 ถ้า ADX ต่ำกว่า 20-25 maket จะเป็น sideway เริ่มเหนือ 20--30 จะเป็นแทรนทิศทางนั้นคือถ้าขึ้นก็มีกำลัง (ให้ดูที่ Plus หรือ minus เพื่อรู้ว่าขาขึ้นหรือลง ตั้งแต่ 40-50 แล้วอ่อนตัวจะชี้ถึงการกลับทิศทาง จากรูปยอดของ ADX ของยอด 2 ของ SET มีค่าตำกว่ายอด 1 มาก และในปัจจุบันอาจจะกำลังออกจาก sideway

Parameters

Periods - Specify the number of periods to use when calculating. The term "time periods" refers to days if the chart contains daily data, weeks for weekly data, hours for hourly data, etc. (Default = 14)
